Hey all, we are so excited about the CSCW conference and to hang out with some and/or all of you! This is a message from CSCW 2023’s community co-chairs, Doug Zytko and Tyler Musgrave. We will have some suggested lunch, dinner, after-hours, and community outings to complement the conference week.
We would like to reiterate that these are suggestions and, we hope enough people will join when they can! Most of the events Doug and Tyler will be there.
Communications:
Discord will be our main form of communication about community events. Feel free to reach out to us via private message and/or tag us on Discord if you have any questions, comments and/or (especially) concerns!
Intentionality:
The curated list of activities was done with intention to circulate our conference $$ throughout Minneapolis and outside of corporate, large chain businesses. As a result, the list focuses on locally-owned, family-owned, women-owned, BIPOC, and/or justice-centered businesses.
Minneapolis is truly a blueprint for localized economic and business empowerment! Let’s not forget Summer 2020, and how Minneapolis played an unfortunate role in the awakening of injustice in the US and globally.
We understand the importance of wanting to feel at ease and accessibility for all, and this was definitely a part of our curation process too. However, we hope that you can see the necessity in making intentional decisions on how and where you want to spend your time, money, and overall experience during CSCW 2023.

This is how we are going about community events:
- Everything will be posted on Discord: cscw.acm.org/2023/index.php/discord/
- Evening before, we will post the day’s suggested lunch + other things
- RSVP via “emoji” so, we can get a head count — one hour before the planned activity (this is really important).
- We will meet-up 15min before posted time if you would like the option to go with the group incld. sharing transportation. However, we will always leave and go together on time! Location of meetup is on schedule below.
- Post and share activities on social media. Hashtag suggestions: #CSCW2023 #CSCWluvsmps #minneapolis.
