GETTING TO AND AROUND SALT LAKE CITY
Salt Lake has a compact downtown that's easy to navigate on foot or by light rail. Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) is about 7 miles (11 km) northwest of the city center, with direct connections to dozens of US cities and a growing list of international destinations.
All prices on this page are in US dollars (USD).
GETTING TO SALT LAKE CITY BY AIR
SLC is a hub for Delta Air Lines, with direct flights to most major US cities and international destinations including Amsterdam, Paris, London Heathrow, Mexico City, Tokyo, and Seoul. American, United, Southwest, JetBlue, and Alaska also serve SLC. International carriers include KLM (Amsterdam), Air Canada (Toronto), and Aeromexico (Mexico City).
The airport completely rebuilt its terminal recently — expect a modern, easy-to-navigate facility. Layout, gates, and services at slcairport.com.
FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE CONFERENCE HOTEL
The Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek is located in downtown Salt Lake City, about 7 miles (11 km) from the airport. Three options to get there:
TRAX Green Line (light rail). The easiest budget option. 20 minutes, $2.50 USD, trains every 15 minutes. The station is on the ground level outside the terminal, east side — exit door 1A and walk east. For the conference hotel, get off at Temple Square or Arena Station (3–5 minutes' walk).
Operating hours:
- Weekdays: ~5:00 AM to midnight
- Weekends: ~6:00 AM to midnight
Buying TRAX tickets:
- Transit app (recommended) – buy and activate mobile tickets
- Ticket machines at every station, including the airport. Cards and cash.
- Tap to ride – some reraders accept contactless cards and Apple/Google Pay directly.
Tickets are valid for 2.5 hours of unlimited transfers on TRAX and buses. You must have a valid ticket before boarding unless you're entirely within the Free Fare Zone. Fare inspectors do check.
Rideshare and taxi. Uber, Lyft, and taxis are readily available. $20–30 USD to downtown depending on traffic. Rideshare pickup is on the ground level.
Rental car. All major companies operate from the consolidated rental center at the airport. Useful for canyon trips and national parks.
GETTING AROUND SALT LAKE CITY
TRAX light rail. TRAX runs three lines (Blue, Red, Green) through downtown where the conference hotel is located. The downtown Free Fare Zone means trips that begin and end within the zone are free — including Temple Square, the Salt Lake City Library, the Gallivan Center, the Delta Center, and the conference hotel area.
Bus. UTA buses reach neighborhoods TRAX doesn't (the Avenues, Sugar House, the University of Utah). Same Free Fare Zone rules apply. The S-Line streetcar connects Sugar House to TRAX at Central Pointe. Use the Transit app or Google Mpas for real-time info.
GREENbike. Salt Lake's nonprofit bike-share, with about 20 docking stations around downtown. 24-hour pass: $7 USD. 4-day pass: $15 USD. Unlimited 30-minute trips — just dock before time runs out. Download the BCycle app.
E-scooters. Lime and Spin operate dockless scooters downtown. No sidewalk riding — stick to streets or bike lanes. Park between sidewalk and curb, not blocking pedestrians.
Walking. Downtown is very walkable, but remember the block size is large. From the Conference Hotel:
- Temple Square: ~5 minutes
- Salt Lake City Library: ~15 minutes
- Utah State Capitol: ~25 minutes (uphill)
Taxi. Available but less common than rideshare. Yellow Cab +1 (801-521-2100), City Cab +1 (801-363-8400).
OTHER WAYS TO REACH SALT LAKE CITY
Train. Amtrak's California Zephyr connects Salt Lake to Chicago (eastbound) and the San Francisco Bay Area (westbound). One of the most scenic train rides in North America, but slow. Tickets at amtrak.com.
Bus. Greyhound andFlixBus serve cities across the western US.
Car. Salt Lake sits at the crossroads of I-15 (north–south) and I-80 (east–west). Downtown parking is reasonable by US-city standards — far cheaper than Boston, NYC, or San Francisco, which makes a rental car a viable option if you want to explore the canyons or national parks. Rates below are current at time of writing; confirm with the lot or hotel before your trip.
- Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek (conference hotel): $29/night self-park, $45/night valet, both with in/out privileges.
- The Gateway garages (~10 min walk from venue): first hour free, $16/day max, free on Sundays.
- Other downtown garages and meters: typically $10–20/day.
WHERE TO STAY
Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek — the conference hotel and recommended option for all attendees. The conference has secured a room block at a discounted rate. Booking through the conference block helps us meet our commitment to the hotel and keeps everyone close to the venue. 75 South West Temple, adjacent to City Creek Center and one block from Temple Square.
Other accommodations. Downtown Salt Lake offers other hotels and short-term rentals if the conference rate doesn't fit your needs, but we strongly encourage attendees to book through the conference block when possible.
