Lasting Impact Award
The Lasting Impact Award goes to a paper that is at least 10 years old and has had an impact on CSCW as a field. Nominations are taken from the community, and the decision is made by a committee of senior CSCW scholars. This year’s committee consisted of Rosta Farzan, Denis Helic, Andrés Monroy-Hernández, Xinru Page, Pam Wisniewski, and Michael Zimmer.
We’re pleased to announce that the 2021 Lasting Impact Award goes to Steve Harrison and Paul Dourish for their 1996 paper, “Re-place-ing space: the roles of place and space in collaborative systems.”
Awards & Recognitions
Beginning last year, awards and recognitions for CSCW are based on nominations by all CSCW reviewers, and chosen by a separate Awards Committee. The awards evaluation process is blinded, and committee members score papers based on both their own evaluation and the evaluations of the original reviewers, including reasons given for nominations.
Best Paper Awards represent 1% of all submitted papers, and Honorable Mentions represent another 4%. Recognitions for Contribution to Diversity and Inclusion represent strong examples of work that focuses on or serves minorities, otherwise excluded individuals or populations, or intervenes in systemic structures of inequality, and selection of these recognitions were overseen by Equity and Accessibility Co-Chairs Jean Hardy and Kate Ringland. We also have two new recognitions this year: Methods Recognitions for strong examples of work that includes well developed, explained, or implemented methods, and/or methodological innovation, and Impact Recognitions for strong examples of work that demonstrates or has clear potential to demonstrate real-world or practical impact.
